If you use an LED bulb with a higher wattage count, even if it’s still within the capacity of the downlight, you won’t be able to cover your downlights with insulation.

This LED downlight is fire-rated to 90 minutes of protection, which means the hole you cut to mount this fitting is completely resealed, reinstating the ceiling’s fire integrity and prolonging the time when the fire will spread (in this case, by 90 minutes). Fire-rated downlights, like this one, have the capability to do so because they have a built-in intumescent pad that activates when exposed to a specific temperature. This pad then blocks any gaps where the fire might slip through.
